All workshop creations take a minimum of 4 - 6 weeks to complete after you have made them.
We dry all workshop pieces slowly. This helps to avoid any possible cracks, warping etc. These can still happen but we do our best to try to avoid them.
Once your creations are bone dry then need to be bisque fired. This firing takes 2 1/2 days. 12 hours to fire then 2 days for the kiln to cool down.
After the bisque fire, we then wipe down everything with a damp sponge and check for anything that may need to be sanded. Pieces are then sorted into groups of colour preferences ready to be glazed.
All glazes are brushed on and need 3 coats. Each coat needs to dry completely before applying the next. This is a lengthy process.
Once glazed, bottoms are wiped and the kiln is loaded. This glaze fire takes another 2 1/2 days. 12 hours to fire then 2 days to cool.
The kiln is then unloaded, bottoms are sanded and your items are either boxed up or sorted ready for pick up.
You will receive an email once ready and we will then arrange a time to pick up.
Things to note:
We only run the kiln when it is full. This keeps the cost of running it down.
We will not run the kiln if there is a storm etc. We are prone to power cuts here and do not want to risk your work or the kiln.
If you attend a workshop on the first of the month, your pieces will be fired the following month. We try to work it so that the first week of every month the finishing process begins. This process can sometimes take up to two weeks depending on what else we have on, what workshops are on and what the weather is doing.
Please be aware your work will always get fired before anything else. We will sometimes fire our own work in with workshop creations but only to fill up space.
The nature of pottery means that things my still crack, warp etc. This is part of the normal process.
